Ivan Dimitrov from Vilnius: It's Time to Start Thinking About Copyright on a Global Scale
At the end of April, the MUSICAUTOR team, led by CEO Ivan Dimitrov, took part in the CISAC European Regional Congress, held on April 29–30 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The event, organized by LATGA—the Lithuanian collective management organization—brought together over 140 experts from across Europe and the United States, including representatives from Netflix, Meta, leading creators, and heads of collective management organizations.
The main topics of the forum focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on copyright, the challenges of fair licensing in the digital environment, public performance rights, and the future of the creative industries amidst rapid technological advancement. A special focus was placed on licensing works used to train AI models and the need to ensure fair remuneration for authors in this context.
“It is becoming increasingly clear that Bulgaria can no longer afford to think locally regarding copyright. This is a matter of global significance, and our country must be an active and informed participant,” said Ivan Dimitrov during the meeting.
Delegates from platforms such as Netflix and Meta shared their views on the responsibilities of tech companies and opportunities for collaboration with collective management organizations.
MUSICAUTOR’s participation in the event is part of its long-term strategy to represent the interests of Bulgarian authors in an international context and to contribute to the development of policies that ensure the sustainable growth of the creative sector in the digital era.
At the end of May, the global community of collective management organizations will gather in Sofia for the General Assembly of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC GA 2025).
