During his speech at the UK Parliament on April 29, 2025, CISAC President and ABBA co-founder Björn Ulvaeus called on the United Kingdom to remain a leader in protecting copyright in the era of artificial intelligence. He emphasized that technological progress must go hand in hand with safeguarding the rights of creators worldwide.
“Copyright is the oxygen that creators and the cultural industries need to exist and thrive. Artificial intelligence holds great potential, but it cannot replace human creativity and must not undermine its rights,” Ulvaeus stated.
As co-founder of ABBA and President of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), Ulvaeus expressed concern that weakening legislation in favor of tech giants would be a historic step backwards for the cultural sector. He stressed the need for transparency in AI training, the guaranteed right of creators to license their works, and fair remuneration for their use.
